Long Buckby RFC Bowled Over by ‘Darren Gough’ Fund Help

Budding Maro Itojes and Alex Matthews in Long Buckby have been given a boost towards achieving their dream thanks to a new sports fund backed by former England cricketer Darren Gough.

The £75,000 Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund aims to support teams based in rural communities across the broadband company’s full fibre network, which spans 26 counties.

Sports equipment including match balls have been netted by the club, who play their fixtures in Station Road. Long Buckby RFC was established in 1875 with the 1st team the 2024-25 season in the Counties 2 Midlands East (South) Division.

Club Chairman Guy Roberts said: “The support offered by Gigaclear’s Rural Sports Club Fund gives a big boost to the club and it is very much appreciated. Providing essential match and training equipment enables the club to continue to grow and deliver rugby to the local community for both children and adults.”

Fund ambassador Darren Gough said: “Since launching the fund, it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is needed most. It’s great to see much needed kit and equipment being sent out to rural sports clubs such as Long Buckby RFC. I believe it will help make a difference to players now and to the rural sports teams of the future.”

More than 2,000 homes and businesses in and around Long Buckby are now able to access Gigaclear’s full fibre broadband offering ultrafast speeds up to 900Mbps. For more details, visit Gigaclear.com
