Since my last bulletin on 20th May 2019 we have been carrying out main drainage works in Phase 3 (from the Flore roundabout to the Heart of The Shires shopping village) and Phase 4 (from the Heart of The Shires shopping village to Daventry Road (Norton)), as part of our essential maintenance scheme to the A5 between Kilsby and Weedon. These works have been carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday inclusive.   These main drainage works have included standard kerbing, kerbing combined with drainage outlets, repairs to existing drainage pipelines (based upon information from the CCTV inspections), using trenchless technology whenever possible but, also excavating where necessary, construction of new road gulley drainage connections, ditch clearing, construction of headwalls to pipe outlets in ditches and reprofiling of verges. 
 
Main Drainage works in Phase 3 are planned for completion by 6am Friday 7th June 2019 with works to Phase 4 continuing for approximately 3 – 4 more weeks.

I can confirm that, as previously stated, we are returning to Phase 2 (from Weedon Bec crossroads to the new Flore roundabout). to resurface the carriageway over the weekend of 7th – 10th June 2019. These resurfacing works will be carried out between 8pm Friday night and 6am Monday morning. 
 
Weedon Bec crossroads will be closed to vehicles during Phase 2. This is to allow for the reconstruction of damaged drainage pipes by excavation in two separate locations within the crossroads. We would prefer to carry out these works during Phase 1, when the crossroads will be closed for resurfacing. Unfortunately, due to the extent of resurfacing works in Phase 1, there is not enough time left in the programme to accommodate these additional works and reopen the road by 6am on Monday 10th June 2019. However, there is time in the Phase 2.
 
Works to Phase 2 are planned as follows:

Friday 7th June – 8pm – 12 midnight: Install Vehicle and Pedestrian Traffic Management, milling carriageway up to a depth of 220mm (including areas above drainage pipes to be repaired in crossroads) and deal with any soft spots found after milling carriageway. Saturday 8th June 12.01am – 12 midnight: Milling carriageway to depth of 220mm and deal with any soft spots found after milling carriageway, lay Geogrid mesh reinforcement material, excavate and repair damaged drainage pipes in crossroads, resurface carriageway with compacted layers of basecourse, binder course and surface course material and resurface footpaths with binder course and surface course materials. Sunday 9th June 12.01am – 5pm: Resurface carriageway with compacted layers of basecourse, binder course and surface course materials, allow area of resurfaced carriageway to cool / cure before applying road markings, excavate and repair damaged drainage pipes in crossroads and apply temporary and permanent road markings.
 
As soon as all works are completed in Phase 2, vehicle and pedestrian traffic management will be removed and the road opened to through traffic.: 
  
I can also confirm that we are returning to Phase 1 (from the BP service station to the Weedon Bec crossroads) to resurface the carriageway over the weekend of 14th – 17th June 2019. Weedon Bec crossroads will also be closed to vehicles during Phase 1. These resurfacing works will also be carried out between 8pm Friday night and 6am Monday morning. 
 
Works to Phase 1 are planned as follows:

Friday 14th June – 8pm – 12 midnight: Install Vehicle and Pedestrian Traffic Management, milling carriageway up to a depth of 220mm and deal with any soft spots found after milling carriageway. Saturday 15th June 12.01am – 12 midnight: Milling carriageway up to a depth of 220mm, deal with any soft spots found after milling carriageway, lay Geogrid mesh reinforcement materials, resurface footpaths with binder course and surface course materials and resurface carriageway with compacted layers of basecourse, binder course and surface course materials.  Sunday 16th June 12.01am – 12 midnight: Resurface carriageway with compacted layers of basecourse, binder course and surface course materials, allow area of resurfaced carriageway to cool / cure before applying road markings and cut for and install traffic loops in carriageway. Monday 17th June 12 midnight – 5am: Apply temporary and permanent road markings in carriageway.
 
As soon as all works are completed in Phase 1, vehicle and pedestrian traffic management arrangements will be removed and the road opened to through traffic. 
 
On Monday 17th, Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th June 2019 between 8pm and 6am we will be applying High Friction Surfacing in Phase 1. These works will also involve the overnight closure of Weedon Bec crossroads. Between 8pm and 12 midnight on the same nights we will also continue to cut for and install traffic loops in Phase 1.
 
NB: Please note that we are planning to start drainage works at 8pm on Monday 17th June 2019 in Phase 5 of our works along the A5 from Daventry Road (Norton) to B4036 Long Buckby. These works will continue for approximately 3 – 4 weeks.

Please note that all our planned road works may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. 
 
Local businesses will be open as usual during these essential works so please use your local shops, bars and restaurants and ask others to do the same. I’m sure that your local business community would appreciate it. 
 
I apologise for any disruption our works may cause. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey. 

Unfortunately, there have been incidences of unauthorised vehicles being driven into our working areas. These irresponsible drivers put themselves and our workforce at risk of serious injury or death. As a result of these incursions we have employed a Safety Camera vehicle which will record any such incidences and report the offender to the Police
