ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORKS:
 
A5 KILSBY TO WEEDON Multi-Disciplinary Project   Update Bulletin 2 – 18.3.2019
 
As you are no doubt aware, works to our essential maintenance scheme on the A5 between Kilsby and Weedon started, as planned, on the night of Monday 4th March 2019.
 
Initial works to both Phase 1 (from the BP service station to the Weedon Bec crossroads) and Phase 2  (from Weedon Bec crossroads to the new Flore roundabout) were completed by 6am on Saturday 9th March 2019. 
 
These initial works included clearing vegetation, cutting back shrubs, hedges and trees, cleaning existing surface water drainage pipelines with a jetting machine and using specialist cameras to carry out CCTV inspections of the pipelines. 
 
Initial works to Phase 3 (from the Flore roundabout to the Heart of The Shires shopping village) started on the night of Monday 11th March and were completed by 6am on Saturday 16th March 2019. 
 
The initial works carried out in Phase 3 were similar to those in Phases 1 and 2 but also included felling of some trees within ditches and clearance of rubbish from lay-bys. As this rubbish may have contained hazardous materials, including sharp needles, a specialist contractor carried out this particular work.
 
We will start main construction works to both Phase 1 (from the BP service station to the Weedon Bec crossroads) and Phase 2  (from Weedon Bec crossroads to the new Flore roundabout) at 8pm tonight. Main construction works are programmed for completion by 6am on Saturday 6th April 2019.
 
Works include both standard kerbing and kerbing combined with drainage outlets, repairs to existing drainage pipelines (based upon information from the CCTV inspections), using trenchless technology whenever possible but, also excavating where necessary, construction of new road gulley drainage connections, ditch clearing, construction of headwalls to pipe outlets in ditches and reprofiling of verges. 
 
NB Please note that the crossroads at Weedon will be closed to traffic during the overnight works to Phases 1 and 2.

Main construction works to Phase 3 (from the Flore roundabout to the Heart of The Shires shopping village) are programmed to start at 8pm on Monday 8th April 2019 and continue for approximately 7 – 8 weeks.  
 
Main construction works will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday inclusive. 
 
NB: Please note that we will be returning to resurface the carriageway in these three phases during the month of June 2019. This work will be carried out at weekends between 8pm Friday nights and 6am Monday mornings. 
 
Please also note that all our planned road works may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. 
 
Local businesses will be open as usual during these essential works so please use your local shops, bars and restaurants and ask others to do the same. I’m sure that your local business community would appreciate it. 
 
I apologise for any disruption our works may cause. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey. 
 
Unfortunately, there have been incidences recently of unauthorised vehicles being driven into our working areas. These irresponsible drivers put themselves and our workforce at risk of serious injury or death. As a result of these incursions we have now employed a Safety Camera vehicle which will record any such incidences and report the offender to the Police.
