Memories of a Long Buckby resident

Posted by Webmaster on May 16, 2016 at 3:05 PM

I used to live in Long Buckby until 1967, I was only four years old, but I remember we used to live in a big house with white gates, nearly opposite Taylors Garage, I know it is long gone, so are the fields that were at the back of our house.

The farm was sold off to auction I think about a week before we left. I also remember the fire siren that used to go off every time there was a fire, and we also knew the mother of the fireman killed in action.

Mrs Sabin used to clean our house and some times she used to look after me and my brother if my parents went out.

I also remember when the pub roof caught fire, i think it was thatched, and my brother was kept behind at school,

I also remember the crisp factory, you could smell it everywhere.

I also remember walking down the High Street one day and all of a sudden being pulled into Mrs Swain's shop, because a herd of cows were rampaging down the road.

The milkman used to deliver the milk by horse and cart.

I wanted to share my memories with you, I am sure I have loads more but it was a long time ago, I loved it in that place

Many thanks to Kathy Lloyd for sharing her memories with us.
