Fred Knits knitting and crochet workshops, a great way to learn a new skill, de-stress and make new friends.
Nether Heyford based Carol Hesketh has recently launched a new venture sharing her love of everything woolly.
The business combines teaching the art of knitting and crochet through informal relaxed workshops (Fred Knits) and the creation of her own brand quality hand-knitted and crochet items – brand name Just Fred.
Carol has been passionate about knitting and crochet from an early age and has taught many people through a local knitting club that she aunched 5 years ago.
At the beginning of 2016 Carol took the opportunity to turn her hobby into a new career, something she says ‘I have always wanted to do’.
‘Crochet and knitting has always had the stigma of being hobbies of ladies over a certain age, however I am finding more
and more younger people are finding it a great way to reduce stress and giving them a great sense of achievement”.
Carol goes on to say ‘Recent studies show that knitting and crochet are linked to having a wide range of health benefits,
the most prolific is reducing stress and improving mental health.’ Carol wants to share her skills and give people of all
ages the chance to learn a new craft in a calm relaxed environment, creating new social networks and friendships.
With this in mind Carol has set up her first wave of knitting and crochet workshops and will be held at The Saracen’s Head, Little Brington.
Carol’s workshops have been very well received. Everyone working at their own pace and taking home a project they have made.
Some of the fabulous feedback received:
‘Found it very relaxing and therapeutic’
‘Took me away from the outside world for a few hours’
‘Enjoyed the ‘time out’
‘Enjoyed other participants company’
If you would like to book onto a workshop please follow the link - http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/just-fred. Carol also offers 1:1 tuition, hen party, baby shower and private group workshops. Gift vouchers available.
In addition to this Carol was approached by Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire to ask ‘Fred Knits’ to be part of the 'School of Life programme' funded by the Big Lottery. This Northamptonshire programme, through a variety of activities, is aiming to bring together all ages to share and learn new skills. Part of this programme is an ambitious project to knit a large Wendy house (6000 bricks in total).
Carol leads knitting workshops in schools teaching the children to knit bricks for the house. Carol will also be knitting a full size door for the house. You can see Carol and how the door is progressing at Abington Park on 18 June, which is World Wide Knit in Public Day. All are welcome; bring a picnic and your knitting.
