Police in the county are warning about the latest device used by cash dispenser (ATM) fraudsters.
A number of incidents have been reported in the Northampton and Daventry areas where criminals have used cash traps also known as glue traps.
The fraudsters stick a device, similar to a piece of car trim, over the slot from where money is dispensed.
The ATM user waits for cash which never materialises and they then take their card and leave the cashpoint to report the matter to the bank.
The cash though has been dispensed - it is stuck to the back of the cash trap, which is then removed by a fraudster who pockets the cash.
PC Julia McLeod, of Northampton Safer Community Team, said: "Several incidents of this nature have been reported to us, mainly in the Northampton and Daventry areas.
"This fraud is becoming a national problem and we would ask anyone using cashpoints to check the machine they are using and to be aware of their surroundings.
"The device is neat and cleverly constructed and has netted the criminals quite a bit of cash in recent weeks "If you have any concerns about the cashpoint that you are using, move away and use another one.
"Please report any concerns to the bank in question or contact the police on the 101 non-emergency number."
