Objection points - Station Road West

We have received the following information and attachments from Liz Barnard and Maria Peploe.

NO MORE HOUSES ON STATION ROAD - planning appeal (APP/Y2810/A/12/2174386)

An appeal to allow 132 houses to be built to the west of Station Road has been made. Villagers' objections must arrive by 1st June - please note this is the Jubilee weekend. These proposals have already been refused by Daventry District Council.

We urge people to lodge their objections either online or by letter before the deadline date.

There are four documents attached.

1. Letters/online comments should be based upon 'DDC refusal of outline planning permission' and the 'objections' bullet points . The quality of your comments is more important than quantity at this stage. Please add as many signatures with addresses to your letter as possible. Please expand upon what you feel are the most relevant bullet point arguments in the attachment.

2. You can submit your comments online. The 'submitting on-line comments' attachment explains how to do this.

3. You can send your objections direct by post to: The Planning Inspectorate, room 3/12A Eagle Wing, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristrol BS1 6PN.

4. The library will collect letters and photocopy so that they can be sent in bulk before the deadline. Please drop your letter off by Wednesday 30th May.

5. If you would like help to file objections by post or on-line, contacts are available at the library.

6. There is also a poster attachment 'No more houses on Station Road' . Please print this off and display it prominently. The planning inspector will visit Long Buckby before making a decision. The more visible the opposition, the better.

Please note that this is the development to the west side of Station Road. Proposals to develop the east side are due to be discussed by Daventry District Council in the near future.

Again, we will need people to write letters of objection and attend the meeting when dates are known.

Local Author Gerard O'Keeffe

Two new e-novels onIrish themes from local author Gerard O'Keeffe.

Coming from a family of first generation Irish teachers, writers and artists, brought up in Long Buckby, Gerard O'Keeffe has just launched two new e-books on Irish themes. Titled The Statue and the Stones and The Third Horseman, both novels reflect his interest in the topics of trauma, silence and salvation. He commented. "Long Buckby was an enjoyable place to be born and bred. The local countryside inspired much of my family's art and my own. Now I have written novels and I dare say my background there was an influence too, though less directly here than in a future work. I believe everyone has it in them to create and hope other local people are inspired to write and paint, as I have been. The Buckby air can have that effect on people!"

Diamond Jubilee Concert

On Saturday 9th June, St Lawrence's Church will be holding a Concert to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The Concert will start at 7pm and music will be provided by the Enderby Band.

Tickets are £6.00 per person, £5.00 for concessions and U16's are free.

Light refreshments will be available.

Tickets are available to buy from Buckby Newsagents or on the door.

St Lawrence's Church Events

St. Lawrence’s Church is open for quiet prayer from 9.30am – 11am on Wednesday (Coffee is available) – this happens every fortnight at the moment.

There is our regular Bike Ride from the schoolrooms at 12 noon. – all abilities welcome.

There is a games afternoon in the Schoolrooms from 2-4pm - “St Lawrence’s Games Afternoon, 2nd Wednesday of the month. Come and join us, get the grey matter working with games such as whist, scrabble, chess and dominoes. Bring your own games. Refreshments & Companionship provided”.

Queen's Jubilee Garden Party

On Monday 4th June from 2pm-5pm there will be a ‘Jubilee Garden Party’ in the Garden of Holly House on the High Street – hosted by Graham & Mary Simpson.

This will include traditional ‘teas’, a sale of bedding plants (with a red, white and blue theme) plus other homemade goods.

There will also be live and recorded music to entertain throughout the afternoon.

Queen's Jubilee Church Service

Sure Start Children's Centres are for families with bumps, babies and children aged 0-5 years. All of their sessions are held at the Community Centre, 41 Station Road, Long Buckby, NN6 7QB, unless otherwise indicated. They are open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm so feel free to drop in and discuss any aspect of your child’s health, care, education or development with them.

Since the launch of the Northamptonshire ACRE bulk oil buying scheme last October, their membership has grown to over 100, and savings ranging from £25 to £30 per 500 litres ordered have successfully been negotiated each month.

Members benefit from achieving the lowest possible prices without having to shop around or to commit to buying in large volumes. In addition, the community benefits from reduced tanker traffic on our rural roads, making it safer, quieter and more environmentally friendly.

During the summer months oil prices are usually at their lowest, so now is a great time for new members to join the scheme and for existing members to plan ahead with their orders.

Long Buckby Parish Council are arranging a village celebration for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and we are very lucky to have a keen volunteer organiser in the form of Parish Councillor Rebecca Thomas.

The event will be on Monday 4th June 2012 and will take place in the evening between 8pm and Midnight at the Community Centre. Tickets to include Indian meal and musical treats from last 60 years to enjoy!

Broadband boost for Long Buckby

BROADBAND speeds will be improved in Long Buckby after a £100,000 investment was announced.

Internet provider TalkTalk is spending £50,000 in both Long Buckby and Weedon as part of its Next Generation Network (NGN) programme.

The NGN enables download speeds of up to 14mbps, enabling many customers to get a 50 per cent increase in broadband speeds.

Long Buckby parish council chairman Steve Osborne said: “This investment is very welcome in the village.

“Any financial initiative by any company aimed at improving broadband speeds in rural areas is good news for the people who live in those areas.”

Bands in the Park joins London 2012 Festival for season finale

Abington Park will play host to a packed programme of live music every Sunday this Summer culminating in a grand finale that will see Northampton join the rest of the nation in the Bandstand Marathon - part of the London 2012 Festival and the Cultural Olympiad.

The Bandstand Marathon will mark the close of the national London 2012 cultural event and will also mark the end of Northampton Borough Council's popular Bands in the Park season.

This year's season is the longest the park has hosted for 10 years with bands booked to perform at the much-loved bandstand every week from 6 May to 9 September. Bands in the Park will have something for everyone.

As well as traditional brass and wind instrument bands, this year also sees the return of Folk in the Park, an afternoon of music from Northampton's best covers' band, music to accompany the runners during the "Race for Life" event, and, of course, the Bandstand Marathon finale featuring music, community singing and an instrument amnesty.

The bands are free to watch and perform every Sunday in the Abington Park Bandstand from 2 to 5pm (some events are longer - please check programme for exact timings).Councillor Brandon Eldred, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for community engagement said: "Once again Northampton Borough Council's events team has worked hard to put together a great line up of music in Abington Park with something for everyone. "It's a great way to while away a Sunday afternoon in a beautiful park setting and this year will see a show-stopping finale as we join the rest of the country in the Bandstand Marathon to close the cultural event celebrating London 2012 - the Cultural Olympiad."

This 'n' That Youth Project needs volunteers

This 'n' That Youth Project is looking for new members and volunteers to help in their shop. Can you spare some time to help with this extremely worthwhile project?

If you can, please contact Jane Perryman on 01327 843761 or call in and see her in the shop

If your clearing out your house and you have items which you no longer use / need but they are too good to go to the recycling centre, then drop them off at their shop.

Why not browse around the shop while you are there, they have some great bits and pieces for sale or you can just have a cup of tea / coffee and browse the internet with their free WIFI.

We will show some photos of their current stock on here later this week.

In case your not aware, this project works with young people in Long Buckby in the range 13-19, providing a weekly club on Tuesday evenings in the Community Centre. It also organises other trips and activities for young people.

Sunday opening at the library

As of this Sunday (22nd April) the library will be open from 1 till 4 in the afternoons in addition to normal hours.

So, if you haven't been able to visit before 6pm closing during the week then this will be good news. Long Buckby Library Supporters will be serving tea and coffee so pop in and read the papers or have a browse.

For children we have an ENORMOUS box of Knex for the afternoon and invite you to come and let your imagination run riot. A prize for the best model. Under 8's must be accompanied.

This is your library so if there are any activities that you would like to happen on a Sunday please let us know. Srabble and chess,book discussion groups, photography club....? We would welcome your ideas.

Long Buckby Cricket Club Youth Section

Long Buckby Cricket Club Youth Section start training this weekend - weather permitting!

This season they are putting out four teams (Under 11; Under 13; Under 15; Under 17)

They are always happy to see new players. In particular, they are looking for players for their new Under 11 team (School years 5 and 6)

They have six ECB qualified coaches who all hold CRB accreditation.

Under 11 and 13 start training this Sunday (10.00 - 12.00)

Under 15 and 17 start next Monday evening (18.00 - 20.00)
